Punta Gruesa Maintenance!

One of the goals of every phase at Punta Gruesa is to try to improve the functionality of the base.

This phase the enthusiastic volunteers have got stuck in. Amy, with her new found palm leaf roofing skills has made a fantastic new cover for our hammock/study area! It serves well as a place to relax when we are not getting sun burnt…
In almost the same breath Amy knocked up, in only a few hours, a much needed new roof for our waste and recycling area as the old roofing fell apart earlier in the phase.

Some of our science equipment has had an over hall, with the creation of a new secchi disk for measuring turbidity and some newly fixed tape measures.

We are halfway to having brand new flooring for the compressor area! Again, led by Amy, everyone has got stuck in to help lay the breeze blocks. A simple but effective way of ensuring the longevity of our hard working compressors!

To help us relax after a busy day of coral reef monitoring, Carlos our resident caretaker, surprised us with an amazing volleyball net made out of old fishing net and palm trunks!

Let’s see what else we will fix and create in the final two weeks of phase! If we’re not too tired from volleyball…
