Last weekend saw the commencement of the long awaited Mahahual Carnival! On Friday we headed into town to decorate the cars in the outfits we had spent all week making. Once our turtle and shark floats were complete and looking awesome, we were more than ready to enjoy the electric atmosphere which had taken over the town. As the procession started we took our place behind the school jungle bus. The children had fantastic costumes with yellow and green feathers; most of them also had better dance moves than any of us… Behind us was a pirate ship, full of Jack Sparrow and Long John Diver buccaneers.
As we moved into town onlookers cheered and children were happy to receive sweets thrown from the floats.
GVI was announced as our floats passed the main stage and endpoint of the procession. Most of the volunteers took advantage of the fame and went on stage to show off their brilliant dancing skills!!!
Afterwards there was a show full of amazing dancing, fabulous costumes and live music. All of the
GVI crew joined in with the very loud festivities of the otherwise sleepy and quiet town! We are proud to have been a part of such a wonderful festival.
Thanks Mahahual!
