From the director's chair

Hello from Playa

It has been a busy week here, with the end of the expeditions and then end of the 3rd group of internship placements.

It was the 1st time we have 17 interns in Mexico, and as all 1st times, logistics were challenging...but successful! We had the great collaboration of 7 dive centers located all along the Q Roo coastline, and the dive experiences and qualifications gained by all interns were amazing!
To celebrate the end of this great internship, we all got together for a meat feast at Carnes Monterey (Playa's famous meat restaurant). After the meat was finished, I had the pleasure of handing out some certificated to all the interns and thank the dive centers for their collaboration - thanks again to all!

You might think that because we have no expeditions running, us in the office and the guys in the field do nothing - well, we do some of that, but we also use this time to prep for the arrival of the new guys (10 days to go...). We also use this time to standardize our protocols, methodologies, talk about how to improve what we do, etc. This interphase we are all going to a small community near the Mayan ruins of Coba, Nuevo Durango. There we will run our staff training and standardization workshop, and also take the opportunity to get to know that part of the world.
What's in the schedule, you might ask yourself? Fun-packed days for sure; kayaking, camping, night walks, spider monkey reserve, games by the fire...and everyone's favorite: Health&Safety workshop!
Watch out this space for some pictures of the staff training weekend.

I will leave you guys for now, hoping to see you all out here at some point (if you are coming next phase, only 10 days to go) and keep enjoying your diving and spreading the conservation word out there!

Danny (Regional Director)
