As part of our CSR & green policy we are trying to reduce the most we can the use of paper, plastic bags and plastic bottles in all GVI expeditions and offices. We are also expanding this policy to our nearby communities and partners. However, as you can imagine it is not a simple or quick task as it implies changing many years of bad habits and the provision of alternative affordable options to avoid using plastic.
As a way to help we are launching different initiatives in our expeditions in order to increase the green culture and get the economic resources needed to achieve the goals. Keep an eye on this blog and our Charitable Trust webpage as very soon the projects will be published and you will be able to contribute while in the expedition or even is you are far away!
Meanwhile a very short term solution is to say NO to plastic bags when we go shopping as it takes many years to degrade and it is even worst if they get to the ocean as turtles and birds confuse them with food and die drawned.
Here in Mexico we found a local responsable company that are creating and distributing bags made of fabric by including advertising publicity on them! Moreover the company also employs disable people to make them. It is a great way to make publicity and avoid or reduce the use of plastic bags and employ people with Down syndrome or any other disability! Click here to know more about this company called "Chacheras"
We are asking if you are interested in putting your publicity or if you know of anyone that might be interested in advertising their products in these bags and contributing at the same time to environmental conservation and social development in Mexico to contact us to give you further advice on how to do it. These bags will go to different parts of Mexico and the World, as volunteers will take them back home when expedition finishes! If you are interested or know anyone that is please contact mexico@gviworld.com for futher details.
