Marine turtle course
GVI have attended this course annually and were warmly welcomed in the conference room in Xcaret – a large eco-tourism park near Playa del Carmen. The course was run by Flora, Fauna y Cultura de Mèxico and presided over by Iñaki Iturbe Darkistade – a very fun instructor!
Amongst other things Ed and Stu practiced measuring shells, learnt about tagging and nest building, and how to identify the turtles from their tracks on the beach!
The nesting season is about to begin on the Quintana Roo coastline, and turtle sightings are increasing every time we dive – it will soon be the time of year that we have turtles nesting on our very own beach!
