A few months ago we reported on the 1st Forum of Fair trade products of the region. Well, following that event, we had several big hotels and restaurant owners very interested in purchasing organic products from our region, QRoo. In order to secure the deals, there were several hurdles we had to make sure they were well thought out and solved, such as making sure local coops and groups had the legal and administrative capacity to start selling products, hygiene standards had to be met and minimum stocks had to available for purchase. After a few months working hard to make sure these were solved, we are
very pleased to have a groups of local producers, mainly from the Mayan communities of Señor and Tihosuco, who are now ready to take the next step.In order to showcase the richness and diversity of the products on offer, a Food Tasting event was organized at the Crown Paradise (who donated their facilities for this event) so an array of head chefs and directors from restaurants and hotels could taste, see and enjoy some local products
Our local chef from Señor, Carlos, prepared the most delicious meal for our guests using Caribbean lobster from Sian Ka'an and dear from Carrillo Puerto, both of them harvest in a sustainable manner by local communities. The yummie dishes were accompanied by Milipona honey vinagrettes and Habanero and pineapple Caribbean sauce.
The event was a success, with all restaurants and hotels praising the quality and richness of the food presented, and showing lots of interest in purchasing a variety of the products.
