Week 6 in Pez Maya-Cozumel diving, manatee sigthting, new monitoring site, Mayan farm and 'N' theme party!
Diving this week has been quite eventful….on Tuesday it was too choppy to get outside the reef however we were able to do a spot of Manatee watching at the Gardens and some dive groups were lucky enough to descend down over a family of Manatees chomping on Manatee grass! A new site was also discovered this week (by accident) and has been aptly named after one of our most vivacious volunteers…. T-Bomb!
The new dive site was very fruitful with 3 Nurse Sharks, 1 Turtle and a Goliath grouper all spotted in one 40 minute dive! Monitoring of fish and coral is now well underway with everyone getting to grips with the data entry and swimming upside down…..without face planting fire coral!
Volunteers were also involved in community work this week, working for four hours on a Mayan Farm digging compost and getting insider tips for growing herb gardens in Mexico! The volunteers all returned with muddy knees and gagging for a bucket shower!
Working up to the weekend everyone has been beavering away creating costumes for the ‘N’ themed Saturday night party in honour of Nick who will be 21 tomorrow! Ten weekers are also excited to start their rescue diver next week and the new 5 weekers have passed their open water with flying colours and will be moving onto their advanced next week!
