New friends in Punta Gruesa and happy birthdays!

Today’s blog is a bit tardy but will briefly bring up a few special events over the past week! First we are pleased to welcome our National Scholarship Program (NSP) selectees, Olga and Memo, to the G.V.I. family! They arrived from our sister expedition at Pez Maya after completing their Open Water PADI training.

The NSP is a scholarship GVI offers to residents of countries in which an expedition is in operation and those lucky applicants selected receive full funding for their participation. The NSP is offered along with many GVI expeditions scattered throughout multiple countries across the globe. The idea is to provide beneficial training and experience to the NSP selectees while giving expedition volunteers a chance to share culture and language with their new friends. Olga and Memo are currently studying hard for their fish and coral tests and are thoroughly enjoying their time here.

In other news we’d like to wish a Happy Birthday to two of our expedition members! On April 14th we celebrated Henry and Jade’s birthday with a special dinner including several very delicious and well received home-made pizzas and a birthday cake! The pizza was welcome change in the menu and we’d like to send a huge thank you to everyone involved in the kitchen preparation that day as it was a large endeavor to take on.

Just to wrap up a very rare “Leather Back Turtle” sighting was reported. We thought this was worth mentioning as it is a very lucky, extremely rare spot. A shout out to those who spotted it!
