GVI Mexico data to be used by the Hart Research Institute

Recently, our local partners, Amigos de Sian Ka’an (ASK) signed an agreement with the Hart Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies in which the latter will use the data gathered by the ASK Reef Monitoring program in Quintana Roo through GVI’s Mexico volunteering program. The data collected by GVI Mexico volunteers from 2004 to the present will be analyzed by Gary Haraldson as part of his PhD research project: “Detecting Resilience on a coral Reef Ecosystem in the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, Quintana Roo”. Gary is a PhD student and graduate research assistant from Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi. He knows Sian ka’an Biosphere Reserve very well as he did a previous study here while completing his master’s degree. The analysis is tentatively due to end by December 2009. We are very much looking forward reading the conclusions of it and will be publishing it in this blog.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers that have participated during this data collection throughout the years and encourage you to read the results that are published at the end of every phase and every year.
