World Oceans Day
Now, the turn to the ocean arrived. Just recently United Nations declared June 8th as the World Oceans Day! According to the Ocean Project www.theoceanproject.org the concept of a "World Ocean Day" was first proposed in 1992 by the Government of Canada at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. However, it wasn’t until now that it became official. The Ocean Project together with the World Ocean Network have promoted and coordinated for six years events and activities with aquariums, zoos, museums, conservation organizations and agencies, universities, schools, and businesses in order to mark June 8th as the day to celebrate our world ocean and our personal connection to the sea.
Now that it became official, it represents another opportunity for us and our partners in Mexico to organize environmental awareness activities in the Area, which are by the way a big success among the people around as they learn how to contribute to the environment protection and at the same time we all have fun!
