Welcome back Ron! GVI Ambassador!
Today we had a visitor to the base (it is always exiting to see people from The Outside!), Ron who was a 5 week coral monitor in 2008. He’s now an official ambassador for GVI which means he gets involved in talking to prospective volunteers, does environmental talks in his local community and on his travels, spreads the word generally about GVI and does PR about the GVI projects back in his home town in Canada.
He’s on a five month trip around South East Asia with his wife and thought he’d drop back in the base to see how things were going. He was most surprised by the rejuvenation of the mangroves behind the base and the other greenery on base which was almost non-existent after Hurricane Dean in 2007.
While here, Ron mucked in with us existing volunteers and joined us on the first dive of the morning. Unfortunately the weather turned against us for the second dive and the boats had to come back in but there were plenty of coconuts that needed his attention. Now, let’s see if we can also get him to pitch back in with kitchen duties…
