I was with GVI for two weeks volunteering with children in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Today is actually my last day, and I had two great weeks at the Ludoteca. The first week started slowly with
getting to know everyone and then I had a great opportunity to spend more time in the Ludoteca with the kids in the second week. I enjoyed helping them with some homework and playing with them is just great big fun. The best part, especially, is when experiencing how thankful they are about your presence and your dedication. Sometimes one of them might just come over to you and give you a big hug. Besides working, there are some hours left to go on excursions around the area - and here, there are quite a few attractions. I decided to visit the ruins of Tulum, the Island of Cozumel and the Cenote Dos Ojos. All of them are really special and fascinating places. Beside of this, Playa del Carmen itself has a nice beach and shopping street.
Leaving the project - even after this short time – I find I’m connected and I’m sad to say goodbye to a place where I felt more than welcome.
