It’s the end of week 8 already! Time is really flying by. This week saw two more nests of turtles hatched and released to the sea, a truly awesome sight. This week was also a great week for spotting, with our first coral community completed by Will and a number of adult turtles, Green Moray Eels and our deadliest visitor, the lionfish making two appearances on Friday.
After a few weather problems on Monday the rest of the diving week wasn’t affected which enabled us all to have a successful week, carrying on with Divemaster training and a few of the five weekers starting their point intercept training, and continuing fish spots. Two dives a day for all was tiring but extremely productive. Everyone relished free moments to rest in the hammocks, lay in the sun, or play a quick game of volleyball. Also, congrats to Dain who fit 8 Oreos in his mouth this week.
This week has also been full of reasons to celebrate and commiserate, with Sam receiving his A levels on Thursday (3 A’s, well done mate! For Americans—test results that basically determine the next few years of his life), Sarah’s 22nd birthday on Sunday and both Silvia and Gen leaving. For Sam’s results Mario and Ali stayed up late into the night to cook him a chocolate cake, he couldn’t have been more chuffed at their efforts. Ali brought home special chocolate from town and Mario diligently guarded the oven for hours.
For Sarah’s birthday a diving trip was taken to Dos Ojos, a local cenote, where the groups were guided through the underwater caverns filled with stalagmites, stalactites, ‘underwater waterfalls’, a truly breathtaking experience. The water clarity was incredible; it was as if we were diving in air! That night a superhero/Sarah’s birthday themed celebration took place. We were all excited to welcome Sarahs 22nd year at midnight with a chocolate cake, and more dancing! On Sunday we said goodbye to Silvia and Gen, they are missed. Also, a group went on a cenote snorkel as well as to Playa to see a movie!
