Snorkel donation to Mahahual Secondary School
Mahahualeñas. Thursday, December 4th
To complete a very successful TEFL season, GVI Mahahual was invited to the secondary school by the Mahahualeñas to witness the donation of eighteen sets of fins, snorkels and masks. These will be put to good use next year with the local students to carry out hands on learning of coral and fish and their environment in the lagoon that is practically in their backyard. The activities will be conducted by staff and volunteers of the Punta Gruesa base to create awareness and increase the students’ knowledge of their surroundings, and to instigate an interest and care for their environment.
We wish to thank the Mahahualeñas for this valuable donation, and we hope that next year will bring other opportunities to continue working with them since they know many of the communities’ needs and are very willing to help satisfy these needs. The Mahahualeñas have been around for the past year in the wake of Hurricane Dean, using personal and raised resources to aid the recovery of the town. GVI aims to work with them to assist with achieving these goals and aspire to a better community. We also look forward to snorkeling with the secondary kids. Snorkels up dudes!
