First Aid Course given to Fishermen of the FSA project
This week the eleven newly OW fishermen together with 12 already diver peers continued their Aggregations course in Punta Allen. During two days the fishermen attended a workshop given by ASK, COBI, TNC and GVI in Punta Allen. The representative of UNEP in its branch of small grants program in Quintana Roo also visited the site and expressed his joy for the ongoing project.
In this course the fishermen were trained in fish counting, size estimations, fish species identification and First aid. They also practiced their diving skills and floatability as well as learning monitoring techniques underwater.
As part of the course and as Health and Safety is always important to GVI. Staff from GVI Mexico delivered a small EFR course to them. Beside having a good fun they learned the basic principles of keeping and monitoring the life line, ABCDs.
Fishermen from Punta Allen being aware of the importance of being trained as an Emergency First Responder requested a bigger course to be delivered to all the tourist guides in town!
