Update on Hurricane Ernesto
Hello again,
Just to give you another update on the tropical storm Ernesto which has now become a Hurricane cathegory 1 this afternoon. It is predicted that it will hit the South of the State of Quintana Roo, Mexico on Tuesday night-Wednesday morning. We continue to monitor it closely from national and international sources, and we are following local authorities directions. As stated before, Quintana Roo state is very experienced with hurricanes so the population is well prepared when a hurricane hits.
The volunteers and staff from the Marine conservation expedition in Pez Maya, have been evacuated to a hotel in Tulum. The hotel is built with concrete and it is kilometres away from the shore. They have enough food and water and are following our Emergency action plans. Our GVI staff are with them and they are in permanent communication with our office in Playa del Carmen.
The Dive Mater interns are sheltered in a safe house in Xcalak.
El Eden location, for the jaguar conservation and bird monitoring project is still kilometers away from the influential area, and they are safe with enough water and food supplies.
We will continue monitoring the situation and will send any updates.
