Hello,
As you may have heard Tropical storm Ernesto is heading towards Quintana Roo in Mexico. We would like to update you on the latest news as all the volunteers and staff are safe. Our Country director and Programme coordinator in Mexico have been closely following the official national and international news and indications on the hurricane since the beginning. Quintana Roo state is very experienced with hurricanes so the population is well prepared when a hurricane hits.
Ernesto is estimated to hit the South of the state (Mahahual, Xcalak, Chetumal) on Wednesday morning. At the moment it is still a tropical storm but it might become a mild hurricane, cathegory 1. The volunteers and staff from the Marine conservation expedition are aware of the situation and they will be evacuating to Tulum today.
The interns in Xcalak are also in a safe location.
The Jaguar conservation and bird monitoring project in El Eden is located very far from the influential area so they are safe in their location.
We will continue monitoring and will send any updates we have.
Tropical storm Ernesto
