Another four weeks have come to a close and we must say goodbye to 8 amazing volunteers. Thank you Eric, Aaron, Jessie, Matt, Luke, Sam, Mitch and Alex for all of the hard work you have done here at Pez Maya. Although we are sad to see them go, we are also excited to welcome 5 new volunteers this weekend and the new staff member Jo! This week we celebrated Will's 25th birthday with a delicious lasagne, garlic bread and a chocolate cake!
All week volunteers have been doing their part to improve and repair various things around base. With repaired hammocks, volleyball net and a roof for the compressor being built, base is looking good. All of our hard work this week has been rewarded with a variety of incredible inccidental sightings including a 2.5 meter Manatee, a 2.5 meter Nurse Shark and a Southern Ray with a wingspan of 1.0 meter! Also a very friendly Remora who decided to attach himself a few divers.
Staff member Valeria travelled to Punta Allen with 3 volunteers this week to continue our community service work. Kerry, Josh and Eli helped to clean up and sort recycling matter and provide English lessons to the local community.
The staff finally surprised us with our Emergency First Responder practical with a very dramatic role play by the staff. I won't give anything away to future volunteers but it was very exciting and we have been warned that there is more to come...
