Amazing busy weeks! Turtling, lionfish hunting, rescue divers, coral data and Advance open water for the newbies!

With predicted bad weather for last week we decided to move forward the weekend and extend our next diving week so that we could get in the water as much as possible this week!!

So far in these last 2 weeks we have had 6 more volunteers (Josh, Tate, Alex, Tristan, Amanda, Rob) head out to xcacel to do more overnight turtle walks. On their trecks they spotted many more turtles nesting and even more cute lil’ hatchlings make their dash for freedom!

We also sent away 8 more volunteers, (John, Zita, Mariana, Holly, Tate, Will, Tristan and Josh) down the long, bumpy track to teach English at Punta Allen.

On  pez mayan home turf we have been working hard and have had our first fish volunteers collect data for us!! Congrats to Mariana, Tate and Holly!!! They have joined the coral crew, Kerry and Eli, already collecting data!!! Meanwhile our CoralWatch data is booming thanks to the polished skills of Zita and John!!! YEAH TEAM!!!

Also on base the Staff have been busy bunnies collecting many lionfish from the reef in an effort to help control their invasive attack!!! As such there has been many dissections and even some delicious lionfish ceviche provided for our enjoyment!!

There has also been many dive skills learnt as our resident hero rescue diver trainees continue to learn superhuman dive techniques to perform on divers in distress, today learning how to find missing divers lost underwater!! Good luck guys!!  And our not so new recruits are now moving on to learn their Advanced Open Water course!!

Amongst all this our volunteers also found time to clean over 500m of the beach!!! Good job team

Its all go go go here at Pez Maya and hopefully our last few weeks here will be just as awesome!!!!
