Last saturday the municipality of Playa del Carmen organized the latest of a series of green events aimed at changing the philosophy and actions of local populations.
In this instance, the municipality organized a recycling event where every kilogram of paper, cardboard, newspapers or plastic was exchanged for a tree or plant. The event was called "Kilo verde" or "Green kilo"
The plant or tree could then be donated back to the municipality for it to be planted and help increasing the green coverage of the city, as well as helping with global climate change and CO2 absorption.
Overall it was a success, and GVI contributed with over 30 kg of paper and cardboard from Pta Gruesa. The trees were donated back to the municipality and we look forward to seeing them grow to healthy and green CO2 sinkers!
So remember, when you are at home, try to reduce your waste material use, and if you still use some then reuse it, and if even then you have some left...then recycle it!
