Pez Maya is visited by Tulum and French munipalities' presidents

Last week saw the visit of 3 VIPs to Pez Maya.

The President of the Municipality of Tulum (Mexico), Marciano Dzul, Yvon Bonnot (President of the French National Associoation of coastal management and Mayor of Perros-Guirec) and Michel Moly (Mayor of Collioure) were accompanied by Gonzalo Merediz (Director of Amigos de Sian Ka'an) and other members of the ASK Board of Directors, during this visit.

This visit, which included stopping at Pez Maya, where they were amazed by the beautiful white sand and clear waters, lunch in Pta Allen and a boat tour of the inland lagoons of Sian Ka'an, had the objective of strengthening the collaboration between French and Mexican authorities, and assessing the potential installation of a joint research center at Pez Maya.

French and Mexican governments have been working together for some time now, and a French-Mexican scientific council was form in order to evaluate, fund and encourage sustainable development and scientific projects. Another objective of this collaboration is offering advise and words of experience to the Mexican counterparts on subjects such as sustainable development, governmental structure and organization, and many others.

Danny, our regional director, had the opportunity to explain to the visitors the aim and objectives of our project, which was received with great interest and many questions - even asking if we could replicate a similar project in the Mediterranean monitoring the recovery of Posidonea oceanica!

The visit concluded with all 3 Mayors planting 2 sea grape trees, a native sand dune species that prevents sand erosion...now it's our responsibility to make sure they stay alive!

Thanks for coming to Pez Maya and hope to see you on base again!
