Guest talk in Pez Maya

Last Friday, Pez Mayan Expedition received 2 professional cave divers and old friends of GVI. Adam and Ela, from England and Italy and now living in Quintana Roo, gave a very interesting talk about cenote formation, underwater rivers and its importance in the Yucatan Penisula, its relationship with ancient beliefs and religion, differences between cave and cavern diving and safety guidelines while diving in it.

After the talk many of our EMs became very interested in doing cavern and maybe one day become cave divers as we were told it takes a lot of time and training to become one. It is maybe one of the most risky and dangerous dives but at the same time marvelous for what is seen inside the caves.

We learnt that a cavern is where you can still see the sunlight but the moment you don't see it anymore you are in a cave and if you are not a qualified cave diver you better head for the sunlight!

We thank Adam and Ela for such and interesting talk and hope to have you back in future expeditions!
