Tulum, home to one of the most beautiful beach of the world and amazing Mayan Ruins, and our closest town to GVI Mexico's Pez Maya, is now also the newest Municipality of the Quintana Roo State. This new political division will mean that new government institutions will be created in Tulum.
As part of this new governmental level design, GVI, amongst other locally recognized institutions, was asked to provide feed back and ideas on the creation of the Ecology Committee. This Committee should monitor the development of this Municipality, as well as provide the technical reports on new constructions, developments and plans. It will also be an important part in making sure the local government follows and implements the current legislations in environmental topics.
The Committee was introduced to the general public as part of a 3-day long Seminar "Environmental aspects in the development of the Municipality of Tulum: current state of affairs and future strategies".
During 3 days, local organizations and scientist will present ideas, studies and strategies to create a set of guidelines and strategies that will ensure the current and future development of this new Municipality is done in a cultural and environmentally sustainable manner.
Some of our partners, like Amigos de Sian Ka'an; Flora, Fauna y Cultura de Mexico, and the world renown cave explorer Sam Meacham, will give talks during this seminar.
We wish the new created Committee all the strength and wisdom, and GVI will keep providing all the necessary support for its success.
