First week at Pta Gruesa breezes through...

After initial introductions in Playa Del Carmen we arrived in the beautiful, yet breezy, Mahahual. Punta Gruesa is a stunning location and we already feel very much at home in our little beach front cabanas. Due to unusually cold winds we were all shivering in our bunk beds until Arturo, one of the scholars, took a trip to town to buy 20 blankets to hide under! Slowly but surely it’s getting warmer and the sun even poked it’s head out yesterday, a sign of things to come, we hope.

On another happy note we are almost fully certified to Advanced Open Water divers now. The

diving has been fantastic and already we have spotted barracuda, southern stingrays, eels and have even been snorkeling with some inquisitive and playful bottlenose and atlantic spotted dolphins. We have had our heads firmly embedded in our fish and coral books this week and took our first on land assessment tests on Thursday. Some of the fish people passed and the rest of us are teetering on the edge. This has been helped by the luxury of having a yoga instructor on base, afternoon sessions on the beach prove very therapeutic!

We are looking forward to the Friday evening fiesta and a well earned day of rest on Saturday to explore the town of Mahahual. It has been an action packed week and we are crossing our fingers for an even better (sunnier) second week.

Abrazos y besos,

The Punta Gruesa Crew 101
