Challenges on Sustainable Development in Quintana Roo forum

Last Saturday GVI Mexico was invited by La Universidad Riviera (Riviera University) in Playa del Carmen to be part of the Sustainable tourism and Regional development Forum. Students from the Sustainable tourism and Regional development Master and Sustainable tourism career assisted to the event as part of their activities to link up with the professional sector. The event took place at the University and started with a talk from the former Tourism Secretary Sigfrido Paz Paredes about Cancun initial planning and future perspectives of Sustainability.

Representatives from different organizations such as WWF, Amigos de Sian Ka’an, the Mesoamerican Reef Tourism Initiaive (MARTI) and Centro Ecológico Akumal were also invited to the Forum to discuss about “Challenges towards sustainability in Quintana Roo”. It was very interesting to see what each Organization does and that everybody agreed on the need of more environmentally friendly practices in all sectors and the importance of getting the society more involved in sustainable development. It was also discussed the use of data from scientific sources to be considered when planning any infrastructure and the reinforcement of legislation.
