The kick off from a volunteer point of view! - Kate

It started off in a complete whirlwind; travel to airport, get on plane, get off plane, taxi to Playa del Carmen, stop over the night and then get ready for pick up by the GVI team.

It was amazing how many people I met in such a short time though, which chilled me out big time as at the end of the day everyone's in the same boat and just wants to meet everyone too.

So everyone met up and walked to the bus stop to begin travel to the base where everyone just started to get to know each other. Once on the base after roughly 4-5 hours on a coach and in a taxi we got introduced to the staff, had some lunch and settled into our huts (6-8 people in each, mixed guys and girls with bunk beds). First proper day on base was pretty chilled out, apart from the swim test and the boat push, although it was great to get in the water. Most of the day though, was about getting settled into base, getting to know people better and enjoying the tropical paradise.
