Our Animal Companions in Punta Gruesa

I would like to start my part of the blog by writing something about our animal companions, because we have numerous animals enriching our life on base.

Apart from the occasional crabs sticking their heads out from the sand, we have this unpleasant invertebrate, the cockroach, walking around. They are especially annoying when they charge you under your mosquito net in the middle of the night (poor Brad)! Then of course we have our old summer friends the mosquitoes accompanied by a hoard of horseflies and sand flies (which will give you nice blisters; poor Hannah U.).

This makes everyone (except staff) walk around covered with red bumps and the occasional swollen ankles. And then sometimes we get a highly appreciated visit from a snake or Iguana and they make perfect photo models.

But the animals that make it all better are the aggressive corals, colorful fish and marine mammals. Especially the eagle rays and turtles make everybody smile.
