Pez Maya gets organic

Pez Maya started a new adventure in the farming world. This week we visited the mayan village of Nuevo Durango where the people are dedicated to growing organic vegetables and animals.

Laurie, Lizzy, Joey and Lluvia went down there to get their hands dirty and help a local family. We arrived early in the morning at the village that is only an hour away from Tulum. We were received by Don Miguel and Doña Adi who showed us around their farms and taught us how to make compost. So we started collecting dry leaves, then green leaves and finally soil (mostly soil with cow’s pooh!); and carried it to the place where we were going to do our cake (that’s how they kept calling the compost).

It was hard work but we enjoyed it a lot. When we finished, Doña Adi gave us some mangoes as a present and Don Miguel took us to his house to have an amazing lunch: tamales (corn flour things with chicken and wrapped in banana leaves). To finish our day, we bought some of the products from them. They were very happy to show us their work and we were pleased to see that they really care about producing healthy food for them and for everyone else. We will come back each week to get products, to lend them a hand and to learn more about their work!
