The Marine Turtle Festival is just around the corner. Check out the previous activities that are being taking place!

As you may have read on this blog or know the 6th Marine Turtle Festival organized by different Institutions from Tulum and Playa del Carmen will take place this 17th & 18th of October. For this occasion various activities are being organized previously to the date such as environmental talks, mural paintings, drawing contests and turtle releases.

Ana Mancera from Centro Ecológico de Sian Ka’an (CESIAK) has been giving talks to children from 6 Primary schools in Tulum regarding the 4 turtle species that arrive to the coasts of Quintana Roo, its ecology and conservation. After this, a rol play is organized representing turtles and predators in which they understand the life cycle of the turtles and how only very few get to the grown up stage. Afterwards, they are invited to participate in the painting contest which has become a tradition as it has been organized for 6 consecutive years.

Likewise, children from different ages organized by “Save the children” and “Cesiak” have been painting allusive murals in town which gives a nice decoration to Tulum!

In Parque la Ceiba, Flora, fauna y cultura de México have organized an art contest regarding turtle threats and conservation in order to choose 50 kids that will be releasing baby turtles for the celebration of the 18th.

Also, on the occasion of the turtle season closing Fundación Origenes de Quintana Roo and Hotel Ramiro organized a turtle release with kids from the Mayan communities of the region.

Finally but not least GVI Expedition members in Pez maya are already planning environmental activities to put in place in Casa de la Cultura for the 17th of October. In Punta Gruesa Mahahual, Expedition members are also very excited for assisting this event and be able to participate in it.

Certainly an event that should not be missed!!!
